Tie Dye Tips
This tie dye tip list will hopefully prevent you from making some of the more common mistakes and help you end up with a successful batch of garments on your very first attempt, no matter how experienced you are.
Tips:
- Always use 100% cotton shirts.
- Always cover work surfaces with a plastic table cloth or garbage bags
- Wear old clothes, an apron or something you don’t mind getting stained
- Use rubber gloves
- Plan out your designs and color arrangements beforehand. You will end up with a much better final product
- Be patient. The more time you take, the better the quality of the tie-dyes.
- Be sure and follow every step of the basic instructions and pattern specific instructions completely.
- Wash your shirts just before dyeing and dye them while they are still damp
- Mix dyes right before using and throw away any unused dyes. The longer dye sits unused the less vivid the colors are.
